Can you imagine loving someone so much that you would value that love above all that is precious to you including your very life? That is the kind of love Jesus demonstrated for us as He willingly gave his life for us on a cross. This was a sacrifice of life, in the most degrading way possible. We hear often about people that give their lives in ways that honor them because of their heroic behavior. But Jesus received no honor in his death on the cross; it was a criminal’s execution. He allowed our guilt to be placed on his innocence that we might be redeemed.

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
(Heb 1:1-2)

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
(2Ti 3:16-17)

God speaks to us through His inspired Word. If we desire a relationship with God it is best accoplished by knowing God. There is no better place to get to know God than through the Word where He reveals Himself to us. We do not need to be Biblical scholars to be saved but our salvation becomes more real in our lives the more we understand the great love that God shows for us.
